Future Totems

The set this week is a blend of melodic house and techno mixed with some tech house and bass house. It’s drop-filled, bass-heavy mix with lots of great sounds and textures that reward close listening on headphones (assuming you don’t have a great sound system at home with a precision low-end). While there are a couple of mistakes, I’m pretty happy with most of these transitions.

I especially had fun with the transition from Rollin’ to The Future (starts at about 22:56). I mix out of Rollin’ at a point where a voice sings a sequence of clear high notes which I blend into a bit of chanting from The Future. The songs are in the same key so the transition works beautifully.

The opening of the set is pretty distinctive and will either delight (my reaction) or annoy. I like to think of that intro—the song is Totem—in contrast to that chanting in The Future near the end of the set. Two different vocal traditions and a world of sound in between.

I’m keeping things short this week, both the mix and these notes. I’ve been under the weather and am still recovering.
